Writing funny wedding toasts can be an intimidating process for someone who's never accomplished it before. Before you know it, the reception is fast upon you and the panic starts to set in.

Each of us has different goals we want to target when writing a speech, and figuring out where to start is one of the biggest difficulties we need to overcome. Whether you're looking to be humorous, sappy, emotional, or a combination of all three, the proper planning is needed to piece everything together.

Part of being in the wedding party is letting loose and unwinding. We're all a barrel of nerves on wedding day: Bride, Groom, Parents, Groomsmen, and Bridesmaids. There's usually alcohol everywhere you turn, but try to limit your consumption until after you give your speech. The last thing you want is to not be on top of your game.

You would be amazed at how many people attempt to give their toasts off the cuff. This is a recipe for disaster. There's nothing like standing up in front of a group of strangers without a clue about what you're about to say. It's a rare breed how would be able to pull this one off.

You've got enough stress coming up with the speech. The last of your worries should be committing it to memory. Don't be afraid to pull out your piece of paper with your speech typed on it and read it off. I've seen countless wedding toast that we're given by a groomsman pulling a piece of paper out of their coat pocket or a bridesmaid pulling it from somewhere in their dress. There's no shame in reading, just remember to look up every now and then and make some contact. You kicked butt drafting the speech, make sure you don't leave anything out.

If you think something might be a little over the top, you're best off excluding it. The wedding party invites people from all walks of life: Nieces, Nephews, Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents, Co-Workers, Supervisors, and Church acquaintances to name a few. You may have some fantastic stories to share about your buddy, and you may feel the need to needle him a little bit, but you've got to remember the audience you're speaking to and try to keep it appropriate.

If you want to get a laugh about the crowd, it never hurts to dig a story out from the past. Funny anecdotes are pure gold when it comes to giving a speech. It really personalizes the entire process and it helps to win the crowd over. It shows that you've been with this person through thick and thin, and that you'll continue to support them no matter how much they may tend to screw things up. Keep in mind that you need to follow are second tip and make sure the story you're hoping to share is appropriate to the group you're sharing it with.

Funny wedding toasts seem like a daunting tasks, but by following a successful blueprint you should be able to compose a speech that will have the wedding reception in tears. Have fun with it and try to enjoy your moment in the limelight. There's nothing more fun than bringing laughter to a room full of strangers.
