There are presently 273 Indian Medical Schools having a capacity of 31298 students. Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamilnadu, Uttar Pradesh, WestBengal are some states that provides best medical professional every year in both MBBS and the post-graduation programs. India has more than 2500 MBBS seats and above 1500 PG seats.

An entrance test is taken by these colleges at national level through which the students get a chance to enter the institutions. India is one of the few countries, having a large number of medical colleges. Also India is the country with maximum number of medical colleges as presented in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED).
