Tuscany, Italy is a perfect area to grow grapes with its fertile soil and perfect climate. With this advantage, this place is a sure stop when you are craving for superior wine. Two of the most popular wines of Tuscany are Carmignano and Chianti.
Chianti
When Chianti is mentioned, a wine contained in a straw basket fiasco comes to mind. While this wine is remembered for this mental image, Chianti is now bottled in normal commercial wine bottles at present although some of the wine producers still use the fiasco container.
Chianti wine may be a mixture of red and white grapes or may compose of red grapes only. Light body wines are generally the mixed grape content with higher proportions of white grapes. The richer and fuller bodied wines will be an indication that it contains exclusive red grape varieties.
Chianti wines taste primarily floral with hints of spice cinnamon. It is fruity in a sense that it tastes like mixture of plum, cherry, and raspberry. Older wine gives a leathery and tobacco like aftertaste with medium tannin and high acid content. This makes the drink a good partner with Italian food especially those with high protein content like beef, poultry, and lamb. The perfect time to drink Chianti is 4 to 6 years of fermentation however superior quality liquor tastes better after 6 to 20 years of storage.
Carmignano
Named after the regions where this superior red wine is grown, Carmignano is Tuscany’s liquor pride. With the vineyards placed 10 miles north of Florence at the low lying hills boosting with fertile soil and climate at just approximately 50 to 200 meters above water level, it is no wonder that the grapes end up just wonderful for the drink.
Carmignano is a blend of Cabernet, Canaiolo, Sangiovese, and Sauvignon grapes. The low region altitude makes the grape based drink contain less acid content but stronger tannin percentage compared to Chianti. This liquor is perfect for addition of other ingredients like chocolate or fruits. Carmignano wine is famous liquor all over the world that high end restaurants always have this drink on their list.
The wine of the Tuscany Italy itself makes it a worthy place for a tourist to visit. Visitors can see how the grapes are produced and will be toured along the vineyard and the grapevine museum. Visitors can also buy a couple of wine bottles to bring back home.
