Civitavecchia is a small town located about 80 kilometers at the north-west of Rome, and it’s “ancient town” was a direct transport line from Rome to all other Mediterranean locations…

Today Civitavecchia Port is known to be one of the most important docks for cargo ships, and also to welcome cruise ships from any part of Europe and North Africa. This is why Civitavecchia is considered a direct extension of Rome, with just 80 kilometers to reach the eternal city. Driving with a car, usually takes between 60 to 90 minutes depending on which part of Rome you would stop. But, travelers and tourists don’t have a car… So, the first problem to face is getting out of Civitaveccia port!

So once disembarked from your ship, getting out of the Civitavecchia Port and heading to Rome has three choices.

Choice One: you can leave the town by train… Picking up a train ride from Civitavecchia train station or the Roma Termini station usually take about 70 to 80 minutes. There is also the opportunity to take a one way train trips to reach Rome which only takes about 30 minutes, but this will cost you an higher fare rate.

Choice Two: you can choice to reach Rome by bus, but this would take a lot of time, because the bus stops dozen of times traveling to Rome… It’s cheap, but too boring! The alternative is to pay more, to take a one way bus, that never stops between Civitavecchia and Rome… and one that stops. This option makes possible to be in central Rome in about 60, 70 minutes. Which is much more better….

Choice three: you could book a private taxi… This absolutely will be the better choice, because with a little more money you will have a luxury private car at your disposal, coming with all the comforts you may want! Your chauffeur will be waiting you in the agreed point, without any queue on your part and without the need to wait your turn… You will be driven in a luxury car, clean, with air conditioned, and many other amenities… Finally, you will get the plus to have an English speaking driver able to assist you for your needs and also available to be something like a travel guide for you!

In my direct experience a direct transfer from Civitavecchia Port to Rome in a private car is actually much more better than getting a public taxi or getting into the shuttle transfer of the cruise line, and the little money you pay more is worth the comfort…

How to book a private taxi from Civitavecchia to Rome? Nothing easier! You may search in Internet, you may take a look at the local Yellow Pages, or you could simply take a look around the port… You will see dozen of public taxi waiting for your call!
