When a person’s organ starts protruding outside the area where it normally should be, the person is said to be suffering from hernia. Even though hernia is more of medical condition rather then a disease, it can still be life threatening if left untreated. There are different types of hernia. Some of them are femoral hernia, incisional hernia, obturator hernia, inguinal (groin) hernia, umbilical hernia, spigelian hernia, and Epigastric hernia.
Femoral hernia is said to occur when the abdominal organs starts protruding through the femoral canal. This femoral canal is a natural weakness that is present in all humans. Even then this type of hernia is not very common. Both men and women can be affected by this type of hernia, but it affects women more due to the fact that the female pelvis is wider than the male pelvis. Adults are more likely to be affected by this type of hernia than children. Femoral hernia is commonly associated either with conditions that increase intra-abdominal pressure or with connective tissue disorder when it occurs with children.
Like many types of hernia femoral hernia usually needs operative intervention. A non emergency procedure should be enough, but because complications frequently occur an emergency procedure is often required.
During the operation the surgeon may consider either using a strong non-absorbable sutures or using a mesh (a surgical implant like SURGIMESH) in the femoral canal. When using strong non-absorbable sutures the surgeon will suture together the pectineal ligament and the inguinal ligament. Irrespective of what method the surgeon uses, the femoral vein shouldn’t be touched.
Under SURGIMESH the company is manufacturing three types EASY PLUG PATCH SYSTEM, SURGIMESH XB, and WN.
