Incisional hernia occurs in the abdomen region. The area where this type of hernia occurs is usually a surgical scar that has not healed properly. Parts of the abdominal organs start protruding through this weakened area in the abdominal wall. Obese people and pregnant women are more likely to suffer from this type of hernia. Patients who have undergone multiple surgeries in the abdomen region face a greater risk of being affected by this hernia. If the patient gains significant weight after an operation in the abdominal region they face a greater risk of suffering from this type of hernia. Physical activities that increases the pressure in the abdominal region including heavy weight lifting or becoming pregnant soon after the operation increases the patient’s chances of getting this type of hernia. This is especially true if the scar caused by the surgery is still healing.
During the hernia surgery the surgeon will place a mesh (surgical implant) to keep the protruding organ in place. There are many surgical implants that the surgeon can use includes SURGIMESH.
SURGIMESH is being made by a French company called ASPIDE MEDICAL. This company started functioning in the year 1994. To design this surgical implant the company worked closely surgeons who have performed hernia operations. The collaboration resulted in ASPIDE MEDICAL creating a line of surgical implants. These implants are EASY PLUG PATCH SYSTEM, SURGIMESH XB, and WN. Each of these surgical implants has different purposes and are used for treating different types of hernia.
