Stress. This is a common term these days. We learn about remedies for stress, reasons for stress, stories from people who suffer from, no doubt we suffer from stress too. But stress is more than a term, it is physical and emotional response to perceived danger, anxiety, and difficult situations. As you can see, stress is more than just a word, it is a cause for concern. nStress makes different of issuesin our lives. Stress can cause many different physical and mental health issues. We might just exhibit our stress by getting angry or being sour one or two days. But quite possibly stress can create a significant breakdown of our mental or physical health. Most of the time it isn't one specific thing that brings on stress related health problems, it is caused by a gradual build up of stress over a period of time. But how can we stop allowing stress to take over our lives? If we have a better understanding of why we experience stress we can teach ourselves how to deal with it better. nPhysical Stressors nOur bodies are made to respond to physical danger, which is a cause of stress. Facing a wild animal, getting lost, being in an accident; these are all stressful conditions. We are programmed to react to these situations by increasing adrenaline production to help us be ready for fight or flight. nThese fears can even cause stress when we aren't faced with them. If someone has a fear of a danger it can be a cause of emotional stress. Someone who is frightened of dogs may experience that fear by passing by a neighbor's home who has a dog, they might even go as far as changing their route to stay away from it. A lot people become physically sick when they fly on an airplane because they fear flying. nEnvironmental Stressors nLife in general can be a cause of stress in our lives. We aren't living in the quiet world of days gone by. In our time we are constantly bombarded by intense sound: cell phones, vehicle noise, TV, etc. We are surrounded by bright lights, which give us safety at night but make it difficult for our bodies to rest completely. In time our bodies and minds need to have peace, quiet and darkness to rejuvenate. But so much of the time we just can't seem to block out the noise and light to allow quiet time in our lives. nEmotional Stressors nWe are all faced with relationship trouble at sometime in our lives. It could be a romantic relationship, a friendship, or a family problem. No matter of the kind of relationship, problems between people are a cause of stress in our lives. Life changes, even good ones can interrupt our body's natural rhythm and cause stress. nThere are many causes of stress in our lives, it is important to identify the stressors we have and teach ourselves to overcome it. By using stress management procedures we can create an inner calmness that will bring us greater emotional and physical health.
