75% or more of all internet users (according to current search data) use search engines to give them the information they are looking for. In fact, the term “Google It†has become a household name for searching online. This means that instead of going directly to a website, the average user will go to Google, Yahoo and MSN first, respectively. So, what if your website does not turn up in these searches and the user does not know your site exists? One would say your website or business will not get this customer’s sale, nor can you compete with your online counterparts.
For a new comer to Internet marketing, which is occurring daily with the economy being what it is, this can be a very intimidating scenario. This is why Search Engine Optimization (SEO) practices have to be utilized. SEO means that a website owner must prepare his/her website to be seen, acknowledged, read and ranked by the search engines.
The challenge with SEO is that to implement it correctly requires time and money; not to mention the technical aspects of it can be difficult to understand. Basic SEO, which involves choosing the exact keywords and making sure your website accurately, reflects your products or services can be handled by someone with little SEO experience. However, SEO can be very advanced and goes much further than selecting proper keywords, which is why many Internet marketers outsource this job to professionals or spend many, many hours learning it themselves. Learning SEO cannot be mastered in a single setting. Spending time building and updating your website, if you are not outsourcing the task, will help you to grasp the concept of SEO like the pros…..which is not a bad skill to have.
What an SEO Strategy Must Include:
The goal of SEO is to ensure that a website is found and rated positively by the search engines. In order for this to occur, the website’s pages must be prepared. Search engines use complex algorithms to determine which websites are the most relevant for specific search terms. These algorithms include keyword density, META tags, titles, inbound links, website traffic and content.
1) META tags are pieces of HTML code which some search engines use in evaluating the content of a website. Placing keywords in these tags can be beneficial in some search engines. However, care should be taken to avoid placing irrelevant keywords in these tags as this may result in your website being penalized.
2) A website page is an HTML document and is broken up into several sections. One of the sections is the HEAD. The TITLE Element of HTML document must be put in this section,
