Once the polyester fibre itself is created, the polyester yarn is made. Polyester yarn is a yarn made from man-made polymers, usually sold as acrylic or novelty yarn. Due to its warmth and durability, polyester yarn is often used as a substitute for wool by knitters and other fibre artists who are allergic to animal fibre. It is also often used to knit projects that require frequent washing, such as household goods or clothing for babies or children. A good use for polyester yarn is a knitted or crocheted blanket, throw, or afghan. The making of a polyester yarn involves a process wherein the petroleum products, water and air into chips are melted, extruded into fibres and then spun into yarn. There are three types of polyester yarn: Textured, filament and spun. The Textured Polyester Yarns are primarily used in the manufacture of linings and garments. Filament yarns are primarily used in garment manufacturing and for industrial purposes. Spun Polyester Yarns is used in the making of suits, trousers and sport jackets, when spun with wool.
There are two types of polyester: PET, which is polyethylene terephthalate and PCDT, which is poly-1, 4-cyclohexylene-dimethylene terephthalate. Polyethylene terephthalate is a polyester material that is most often used to make fibre parts made by injection moulding, and containers for food and beverages, pharmaceuticals and make-up. PET may also be recycled to make carpeting or fibre filling. It is well known that post consumer PET bottles flakes are mainly recycled into textiles (or garments), carpets and sheets. The bottle grade PET has high quality and high performance among the various PET grade.PET continues to be favoured by many companies because it offers significant design flexibility and it is recyclable. Companies that choose to use PET for packaging have different options in regards to shape, size, neck finish and colour. Some of the designs are made thick enough to be refilled, but the majority of polyethylene terephthalate containers are granulated into flakes and these PET bottle flakes are reshaped or processed to any kind of products like film, bottles, fibre, filament, strapping or intermediates like pellets for further processing and engineering plastics.
