Mistake # 1: Using the wrong font color. Many business owners make the mistake of using a light colored font color over a dark background. This only makes your text hard to read. If people cannot read your message, they are likely to disregard it. If you want your card to be read and understood, it’s important that you stick with the standard black text over a white background. Just take a look at books and newspaper. They have a reason for using black text on white paper. This generates the highest level of readership and understanding.
Mistake # 2: Overlooking the headline. It’s important that you have a headline for your cards. Remember that people use the headlines to decide which messages and ads they will read. If your card does not have a strong and benefit-oriented headline that grabs the interest of your prospects, your message is insignificant and people won’t simply read it.
Mistake # 3: Picking a Sans Serif font over a Serif font. Researchers have found out that people find it hard to read a post card that uses the Sans Serif font as this type of font has soft curves that does not provide something for the letters to stand on. An example of this font is Arial. This type of font should not be used in your card. Instead what you should use is a Serif font such as Times New Roman to generate the highest readership.
Mistake # 4: Writing your message in capital letters. Keep in mind that there are people who find it hard to read messages that are in all caps. If you want to get the most readerships for your postcard printing, then don’t use all caps in your text and body of your message.
Mistake # 5: Using a so small font size. You would not want people using a magnifying glass to read your message. People won’t simply bother reading a card that they can’t read easily. So, keep in mind to use a font size that is not smaller than 10 point. Not everyone, after all, has a perfect vision. Therefore, make sure that you use a font size that is big enough so people will easily read your message. When people see that your texts are small and too hard to read, they will simply ignore your card and your message.
Mistake # 6: Skipping to justify the body of your copy. Researchers have found out that people respond less to copies that are centered or not justified. So, if you want to make your cards attain high readership, then justify your message left and right.
Mistake # 7: Failing to include a strong call to action. Remember that the purpose of your post card is to sell something. Even if your purpose is to simply create brand awareness, you have to ensure that your message has a strong call to action. This could be in form of a free call, a visit to your web site, a free product trial, a free gift, and many others. The key here is to have a strong call to action to get your prospects to patronize what you are offering theme.
