When done well, postcards can be a valuable and inexpensive ingredient of your marketing campaign. For this reason, it is important that you create the best message for your cards. After all, the words and texts in your card will be the deciding factor in whether people listen to what you say or not.

But not all people have the experience in writing a good post card copy. Many don’t actually have enough writing experience to come up with the best copy for their cards. But this should not stop anyone from creating a good copy. Here are tips to give you confidence in writing an effective postcard message.



Prior to writing . . .

. . . you need to identify who your target audience is and what are your goals. These are important steps you need to do beforehand as they will be the determining factor in deciding what message and words to write in your postcards. You can start with making a list of the needs and wants of your target market. After collecting all information, narrow down the list to the most important element. You can then use that element in your headline and in your message.

Experience not a necessity. When it comes to writing compelling copies, professional experienced is not mandatory. What is more important is understanding human feelings. Just look at the successful writers today. These people did not become successful by being bookish and literary wiz. What made them successful are their understanding of human emotions and what inspires.

In order for your copy to be effective, it has to be clear, simple, and direct to the point. Don’t use complex languages. Just stick to the basics and let your emotion run. It’s best if you take a look at the copies of other businesses. It’s likely that they have clear-cut descriptions that touch on people’s emotions effectively. Do the same to your copy.

Stick with one idea on each card. Many people, in their desire to tell people as much information as they can, try to put as much ideas as they can on their card. Again, remember that you only have limited space, so don’t put a lot of message in it. After all, one organized idea is a thousand times better than three half-organized ideas.

So, just focus on one product or topic and develop it in a way that it will gather a lot of positive response. You can consider providing the key benefits of your offerings, include some photos, provide a compelling offer and present a strong call to action.

Create a strong headline. Depending on how your headline is used, it can either make your postcard printing successful or not. As much as possible you want to catch your prospects’ attention at first glance, so you need to tell them straight away what you are offering them. Don’t beat around the bush. Your prospects don’t have all day let alone a minute or two to figure out the purpose of your card. A few seconds is all you got so make the most of it.

Write effectively. It is important that you write naturally. Use natural tones that don’t make your message obscure. Stay away from slang and fancy words as this would only make it difficult for your readers to understand your message. If you do this, you have just earned your card a one way ticket to the trash.
