If you are interested in learning about your family history, looking into the marriage and divorce records of your family can be very helpful in accomplishing this. A family tree cannot be completed without having a complete record of any marriages and divorces that took place among your great grandparents, ants, and uncles. Alternatively, you might be interested in looking into the marriage and divorce records of somebody that you are interested in dating. Perhaps they claim to be single and never married, but you have your suspicions. Whatever the reason, it is possible to find this information in a couple different ways. As long as you know which state of the country the marriage or divorce took place in, it is possible for you to find all of the information that you are looking for.

To find this information there are a few basic ways. You can either look for the information in person, or you can look for it online through the internet. If you choose to look for this information in person, you can start by visiting the records office of the state in which you think that the marriage or divorce would have occurred. The records department may have a different name depending on the state that you live in. Regardless, you can determine where these records would be kept by contacting the National Center for Health Statistics, which offers a list of places in which these records are kept, as well as addresses that tell you were to visit in order to find the information.

Next step, complete a request for marriage or divorce form. There are some states in which this will not be necessary, but in most cases you will be required to fill out an application in order to obtain access to the marriage and divorce records. In some cases, the state may not allow for you to apply for this information unless you are the bride or the groom, or a representative of one of them. There may be a small fee to pay. In some cases, you will get the information in the same day, while in others you will have to wait.

If you wish to look for the information online, you can look though one of several public records websites. It is important to check with the Better Business Bureau to make sure that the site is run by a legitimate business. You can also check the health department's website.
