Creating an outdoor space for your home or business requires a certain amount of planning. In addition to the landscaping, furniture, and space decisions, property owners must also consider the weather and comfort of themselves and their guests. Awnings protect from both rain and sun. They are the very solution needed to enjoy more time outdoors. Here are a few awning types and what type of building they are best suited for.
1. Wood
Homeowners looking to create a warm, cottage feel would be best advised to look into wood awnings. They are very sophisticated looking and ideal for a wraparound porch, a garden seating area, or an outdoor walkway. Wood patio awnings keep outdoor spaces cool in hot weather, and therefore provide a comfortable place to sit and entertain.
2. Retractable
If you don't have the space for a permanent awning a retractable one is a good alternative. These are popular devices for restaurants or bars that don't require sidewalk space during colder months. Camper vans often have retractable awnings, as they want a shaded place to eat but can't drive with something sticking out the side of their vehicle.
3. Fabric
Fabric awnings come in many colours, shapes, sizes, and styles and can therefore add an aesthetic and unique element to the outside of a home or public building. Moreover, most types of fabrics are retractable or, at the very least, easy to put up and dismantle. As temporary structures, they are ideal for outdoor events like weddings.
4. Metal
Many people and business owners choose metal awnings over wooden ones. The reason for this might be metal's ability to handle certain weather conditions, cost or aesthetics. While metal doesn't come in as many colours as fabric, consumers can choose from standard black to shiny bronze.
While you might not have noticed it, most commercial buildings have awnings over their windows as opposed to traditional blinds and drapes usually found in homes. The reason for this is style and aesthetics. Commercial buildings still require shade, and awnings are the solution most of them feel is ideal. Larger awnings are typically used for big spaces such as restaurant terraces, garden gazebos, or wraparound porches. Consumers have a wide variety of awnings fabrics and styles to choose from. Depending on the look and feel they're hoping their home, restaurant, or store will achieve owners might choose a classic wooden awning, or a bold bronze metallic one.
